   Class XII English Poem - Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers  Aunt Jennifer’s tigers is a poem by  Adrienne Rich  illustrating her feminist concerns. In the male dominant world, a woman of her time was only supposed to be a dutiful homemaker. This poem through the world of Aunty Jennifer, tells us about her inner desire to free herself from the clutches of abusive marriage and patriarchal society. Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers Summary The poet expresses the inner feelings of a woman - Aunt Jennifer. The aunt is embroidering a motif comprising of energetic, fearless tigers moving freely around the bright greenery. She is living a life of submissiveness to her husband’s command. Her acts are dominated by him and she fears him constantly. This pattern of the free and fearless tigers reflects her inner desire to live a free and fearless life. The tigers are graceful, elegant and bright. Aunt Jennifer’s fingers tremble as she embroiders. She is old but still fears her husband. She does not enjoy the freedom

       "A Thing of Beauty" by John Keats About the poet John Keats was born in London in the year 1795 and died in Rome in 1821 at the very young age of 25 due to illness. He is a romantic poet and his poetry is characterized by sensual imagery in his most popular work which is a series of odes, (a lyrical poem which is meant for a particular subject). Today, his poems are one of the most sought after creations in English literature. The above given poetry is an excerpt from his poem, -Endymion : A poetic Romance-(1818), considered to be an epic poem. THEME:- Nature is an endless treasure of beauty and a perpetual source of joy A Greek legend happens to be the basis for A Thing of Beauty summary. In this Greek legend, a young shepherd by the name of Endymion had a vision of Cynthia, the moon goddess. This youth makes a resolution to go after her and seek her. About the Poet - Pablo Neruda Pablo Neruda  (1904 – 1973) was the ‘pen name’ and later, ‘legal name’ of this famous Chilean poet – diplomat – politician. He won the Noble prize for literature in the year 1971. He wrote in green ink which was his personal symbol for desire and hope.  His writings are simple, wherein lies their beauty. Originally written in Spanish, the essence of this poem is based on introspection and retrospection. The poet feels that some soul – searching is needed for us to be at peace with ourselves and others.   Introduction to the POEM The poem was originally written by  Pablo Neruda  in Spanish but later translated to English. Its main thrust was the significance of mindfulness, introspection and retrospection as these lead to attention, unity and brotherhood. It was an appeal to pause and really see that set in a mundane flurry of human habit; people are led to blindly perform what is expected of them while sadly not perceiving the impact to nature and society.
